PROJECT-2 RE-RELEASE ANNIVERSARY
MODERNISM
Modernism is the function that should always dictate its purpose of what something is meant to do such as how a chair is made. It's also a deliberate rejection of the styles of the past.
This work is an example on Lester Beall's electrical advertisement it's straight forward and only uses the colours red, blue, yellow, black and white. It's also easy to see what they are talking about. You can also see signals to show what it does such as light beams from the bulb, arrows from the radio and arrows for the direction for the flow of the water.
This work is an example of Henry Ford's company logo Ford it's straight forward and only has 2 colours blue and silver. It's a representation of what ford and the logo is and it doesn't have a hidden message for what it means. This is one of the most recognisable car logo's since 1903.
This work is an example of George Lois' work that's straight forward and to the point.
They only use a few colours and has no decoration, the halo represents that they're a good person.
POST- MODERNISM:
Post-mordenism is the opposite of modernism where it was around after modernism existed. This is where you design freely without any restrictions like points of view, political aspects etc. Post- modernism is the addition of extra aspects such as a spinning chair, leg extension chairs etc. The viewer was engaged in the work for longer so they take more notice to the work, they did this by making it harder to recognise at the first look. The work would have been easily noticeable by using bright colours, easily noticeable shapes and would have pieced them together in an amazing fashion. Post-modernism also rejected the past's style and messages then chose their own to go by that has no link to the previous era's work.
HERE ARE 3 EXAMPLES OF POST-MODERNISM:
April Greiman designed this poster has a deeper meaning and it suggests that you don't need to know the artist to respect the artwork. The different colours in the artwork could represent different emotions a human comes in contact with and they're not as straight forward as they seem.
CHIP KIDD WORK EXAMPLES:
This is one of Chip Kidd's work - he is a graphic designer and writer. He lived in Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1986. Chip Kidd works on comic novels like: Batman: Death by design, The Bat-Man (in Bizarro comics)(2001), "The trust", in mythology: DC Comics and Batman with Robin the Boy Wonder (they're all short comic stories)
This is also Chip Kidd's work.
This is another piece of work advertising another DC Comic hero. SHAZAM is shown in a lightning bolt (which is Shazam's symbol) and it shows that Shazam is an acronym.
This is also another example of Chip Kidd's comic work. This is advertising DC Comics by using one of their biggest characters... BAT-MAN. The colours used could represent emotions/mood i.e: Black-Fear/Death/Darkness, Red-Danger/(possibly)blood/emotions etc. Detective Comics is in bold, black letters because it's the name of the company and therefore has to stand-out against the rest of the image.
This is a Watchmen poster that Chip Kidd helped to create but wasn't the main artist, the main artist was Dave Gibbons. The colours black/yellow stand-out against each other creating a bigger/ more noticeable effect.
This is a Superman advertising poster edited by Chip Kidd but the sketches are the work of Alex Ross. Superman in the logo is half coloured in while the other half is just sketched showing signs of the 'scaffolding' of the design.
SAUL BASS WORK EXAMPLES:
He advertised the film called the shining. he used the colors yellow and black and has a weird face.
This film is called The Shining and Stephen King wrote the book but didn't like the film.
This is Saul Bass' work for Exodus from the picture it seems to be about a revolution of some kind. He has only used the tone black and colour blue. I think it's about a revolution because it shows an arm holding a shot-gun above other arms surrounding it like it's being followed.
The word Exodus is written in a stencil typeface. The word Exodus can mean 1) A mass departure of people or 2) The departure of the Israelites from Egypt. Exodus is also a word that can symbolise religious stories.
This is another piece of Saul Bass' work for AT&T. They're a tele-communication company. This logo like Exodus has black, blue and white only.
This is another Saul Bass' work for Anatomy Of A Murder. He has used the colours red and black which could represent blood and death. The word Anatomy suggests that doctors are involved and it's very biological. The body seems to be dismembered maybe hinting to the content of the murder.
This is another Saul Bass' work for United Way, the hand and rainbow are connected through the change in colours. It goes blue, purple, pink, red, orange and then yellow, the colours are laid out like their's less difficulty or stress as time goes on. The title United Way is in black so it can stand-out against the colourful logo. The hand is positioned like it's a helping hand.
I got the idea for this poster by using a clock to symbolise the element of time within the film. Back To The Future is written in a grey/silver colour hinting to the colour of the car.
This is another poster i did to advertise Back To The Future, i used another quote from the film to show signs of what occurs within the film. The title of the film is within the quote used to do a 2-in-1 title. I used a clock to represent the element of time within the film.
This is the next Back To The Future poster i did, i used the quotes "If you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything", "Great Scotts!", "1.21 Gigawatts!!!" ETC. I modified the quote we're sending you Back To The Future into the title by having we're sending you... in red and then Back To The Future in a modified black font over fire (hinting to the fire trials the delorean leaves).
Michael J.Fox and Christopher Lloyd are in bold red writing because they're the actors while Robert Zemeckis is in gold because he's the writer/director of the film.
This is a scan of my die hard Chipp Kidd planning.

PROPOSAL
I propose to produce a 2017/18 80’s film trailer for a 30th
anniversary, the film I have chosen to do is… DIE HARD. I have chosen the film Die
Hard because I know the story best and have perfect knowledge of the film. The
film was released 1988.
Storyline- I know the story well enough to hopefully make it
more effective.
Camera Shot List:
Establishing
shot
Establishing shot: I
will use this as my establishing shot for my trailer. This will be recognisable
for ‘die hard’ Die Hard fans who know the film inside and out.
Close up shot: I will use a close up shot to show
suspense to convey tension.
In the Die Hard trailer it shows the terrorists gaining
control, shows signs of how complicated John/ Holly’s relationship is, a
helipad which holds great impact over the film is shown plus many more
locations. It starts with John arriving at an airport with a massive teddy bear
and then meeting Holly at her work building. You can see Christmas trees representing
the time of year (December), you can see the havoc the terrorists are causing
and then the trailer soon leads to the roof. The roof plays a crucial part
within the film.
EQUIPMENT
LIST:
The equipment I will use are cameras, green screen, computers
for C.G.I, Tri-Pod ETC.
HOPEFUL
OUTCOME:
My hopeful outcome is to create a Die Hard trailer that can
advertise the film in as much detail as needed but not too much that it reveals
too much of the film.
SKILLSET:
Make sure I collect enough camera angles and different types
of shots (long shot, mid shot, close- up, high angle shots and 180 degree shots)
It must make sense.
The shots I plan to use are…
John runs to top floor (1 or 2 shots/ feet running etc.)
Elevator shaft (on elevator going up)
John’s in air vents (has lighter in scene)
John on radio talking to police (call me… Roy)
Police helicopters flying low
Agent Johnsons X2 arrives (agent Johnson and agent Johnson,
no relation)
Police shoot at John thinking he’s a terrorist (on the roof/
wide shot)
John on radio talking to Hans (yippee ki yay/ mid shot)
John blows up ground level (explosives tied to computer chair
dropped down elevator shaft/aerial, mid, another mid shot (explosion)
Police talking to John (ok report me, get down here and
arrest me, just send the police/mid shot/ mid-air shot)
L.A.P.D Truck blows up (and the quarterback is toast)
John picking glass out of foot (mid shot, aerial mid shot
looking down on blood trial)
John in vent with lighter (close up, we’ll get together, have
a few laughs)
Roof explodes/John jumps off (long shot, aerial shot,
close-up: when John jumps off roof)
Names/Title appears (DIE HARD (big and bold, Bruce Willis and
Alan Rickman)
TEXT: DIE HARD in
bold, capital letters, the text appears from an explosion (hints to events
within the film) Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman are the only names listed
hinting to the importance of the characters and they may be the only known
actors.
This is Die Hard just images.
This is Die Hard Typographic.
This is Die Hard Chipp Kidd.
This is the 2nd Back To The Future Chipp Kidd.
